Health Care Costs To GDP

Health Care | Czech Republic | September 25, 2014
Excel Sheet

Health care expenditures accounted for 7.5% of GDP on average in the Czech Republic in the last five years. This is one of the highest figures within the EMEA, but still well below the standards seen in the western Europe. When compared to the neighbouring Austria, for example, Czechs spent as little on health care as Austrians at the beginning of 1990's in relative terms.

In absolute terms, the difference is even more striking. While Czechs spent USD 1,546 per capita on health care expenditures on average in 2011,  it was more than USD 5,200 in Austria. That is in spite of the fact total health care expenditures have risen three-fold in the last decade in USD-terms.
