Czech banks belong to the most profitable ones in the world. In 2000-2012, the average return on equity of the whole banking system reached nearly 14%. Strong macroeconomic development, clean up and privatization of the bankrupt state-owned banks, solid supervision, boom of mortgage lending and high concentration of the market all contributed to the solid profitability.
