Based on a comparison of 158 countries in 2016, India ranked the highest in workers' remittances received with USD 62,745 bil followed by China and Philippines. On the other end of the scale was Suriname with USD 1.49 bil, South Sudan with USD 1.99 bil and Maldives with USD 3.75 bil.
Total workers' remittances received reached USD 536,666 bil in 2016 in the World according to the National Statistical Office. This is 3.1 % less than in the previous year and 45.1 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total workers' remittances received reached an all time high of USD 553,283 bil in 2015 and an all time low of USD 1,929 bil in 1970. The average annual growth amounted to 13.0 % since 1970.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 11.7 % of workers' remittances received in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 24.1 % share while the ten largest countries some 49.9 % in 2016.
