Based on a comparison of 142 countries in 2013, India ranked the highest in coconut consumption with 7,252 kt followed by Indonesia and China. On the other end of the scale was Swaziland with 0.012 kt, Mauritania with 0.039 kt and Bahrain with 0.053 kt.
Total coconut consumption reached 21,671 kt in 2013 in the World according to Faostat. This is 0.95 % more than in the previous year and 9.93 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total coconut consumption reached an all time high of 22,221 kt in 2007 and an all time low of 7,183 kt in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 2.15 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 33.5 % of coconut consumption in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 72.7 % share while the ten largest countries some 92.2 % in 2013.
