Based on a comparison of 73 countries in 2013, China ranked the highest in potato consumption with 18,474 kt followed by Indonesia and Nigeria. On the other end of the scale was Iceland with 0.033 kt, Malta with 0.641 kt and Slovenia with 3.71 kt.
Total potato consumption reached 146,848 kt in 2013 in the World according to Faostat. This is 0.469 % more than in the previous year and 3.45 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total potato consumption reached an all time high of 153,366 kt in 1997 and an all time low of 70,426 kt in 1963. The average annual growth amounted to 1.01 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, China, accounted for 12.6 % of potato consumption in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 31.4 % share while the ten largest countries some 62.8 % in 2013.
