Based on a comparison of 132 countries in 2013, China ranked the highest in spice consumption with 4,991 kt followed by India and Bangladesh. On the other end of the scale was Belize with 0.109 kt, Haiti with 0.205 kt and Angola with 0.214 kt.
Total spice consumption reached 8,554 kt in 2013 in the World according to Faostat. This is 3.43 % more than in the previous year and 24.9 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total spice consumption reached an all time high of 8,877 kt in 2011 and an all time low of 1,603 kt in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 3.27 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, China, accounted for 58.3 % of spice consumption in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 102 % share while the ten largest countries some 122 % in 2013.
