Based on a comparison of 30 countries in 2022, Egypt ranked the highest in artichoke production with 459,962 tonnes followed by Italy and Spain. On the other end of the scale was Switzerland with 2.00 tonnes, Kenya with 26.9 tonnes and Costa Rica with 27.7 tonnes.
Total artichoke production reached 1,584,514 tonnes in 2022 in the World according to Faostat. This is 4.78 % less than in the previous year and 1.76 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total artichoke production reached an all time high of 1,660,298 tonnes in 2021 and an all time low of 708,759 tonnes in 1963. The average annual growth amounted to 1.02 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Egypt, accounted for 29.0 % of artichoke production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 65.5 % share while the ten largest countries some 93.8 % in 2022.
