Based on a comparison of 31 countries in 2014, Italy ranked the highest in artichoke production with 451,461 tonnes followed by Egypt and Spain. On the other end of the scale was Switzerland with 5.00 tonnes, Palestine with 26.0 tonnes and Costa Rica with 29.0 tonnes.
Total artichoke production reached 1,584,225 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 13.2 % less than in the previous year and 13.6 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total artichoke production reached an all time high of 1,793,016 tonnes in 2013 and an all time low of 708,759 tonnes in 1963. The average annual growth amounted to 1.17 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Italy, accounted for 28.5 % of artichoke production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 60.1 % share while the ten largest countries some 91.9 % in 2014.
