Based on a comparison of 101 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in banana production with 29,725 kt followed by China and Philippines. On the other end of the scale was Japan with 0.036 kt, Syria with 0.152 kt and United Arab Emirates with 0.197 kt.
Total banana production reached 105,982 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 0.691 % less than in the previous year and 28.2 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total banana production reached an all time high of 106,714 kt in 2013 and an all time low of 21,445 kt in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 3.06 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 28.0 % of banana production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 47.6 % share while the ten largest countries some 78.7 % in 2014.
