Based on a comparison of 26 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in buffalo meat production with 1,615,093 tonnes followed by Pakistan and Egypt. On the other end of the scale was Bhutan with 33.0 tonnes, Brunei with 102 tonnes and Greece with 190 tonnes.
Total buffalo meat production reached 3,628,921 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.59 % less than in the previous year and 19.4 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total buffalo meat production reached an all time high of 3,722,800 tonnes in 2013 and an all time low of 1,071,154 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 2.33 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 44.5 % of buffalo meat production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 78.2 % share while the ten largest countries some 101 % in 2014.
