Based on a comparison of 56 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in chickpea production with 9,880 kt followed by Australia and Myanmar. On the other end of the scale was Dominican Republic with 0.003 kt, Colombia with 0.075 kt and Cyprus with 0.090 kt.
Total chickpea production reached 11,682 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 12.2 % less than in the previous year and 28.2 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total chickpea production reached an all time high of 13,102 kt in 2013 and an all time low of 4,854 kt in 1980. The average annual growth amounted to 0.794 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 84.6 % of chickpea production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 94.8 % share while the ten largest countries some 112 % in 2014.
