Based on a comparison of 24 countries in 2014, France ranked the highest in flax fibre and tow production with 74,009 tonnes followed by Belgium and Belarus. On the other end of the scale was Lithuania with 4.00 tonnes, Austria with 6.00 tonnes and Turkey with 7.00 tonnes.
Total flax fibre and tow production reached 295,474 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.59 % less than in the previous year and -243 % less than 10 years ago.
Historically, total flax fibre and tow production reached an all time high of 1,013,105 tonnes in 2004 and an all time low of 259,896 tonnes in 2011. The average annual growth amounted to -1.61 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, France, accounted for 25.0 % of flax fibre and tow production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 66.0 % share while the ten largest countries some 108 % in 2014.
