Based on a comparison of 25 countries in 2022, Ethiopia ranked the highest in hop production with 48,347 tonnes followed by USA and Germany. On the other end of the scale was Portugal with 20.0 tonnes, Switzerland with 31.0 tonnes and Serbia with 33.6 tonnes.

Total hop production reached 158,545 tonnes in 2022 in the World according to Faostat. This is 14.2 % less than in the previous year and 29.2 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total hop production reached an all time high of 181,008 tonnes in 2021 and an all time low of 69,670 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 1.36 % since 1961.

The top ranked country, Ethiopia, accounted for 30.5 % of hop production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 81.2 % share while the ten largest countries some 95.8 % in 2022.
