Based on a comparison of 20 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in jute production with 1,968,000 tonnes followed by Bangladesh and China. On the other end of the scale was Myanmar with 5.00 tonnes, Pakistan with 14.0 tonnes and El Salvador with 51.0 tonnes.
Total jute production reached 3,519,438 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.75 % more than in the previous year and 27.2 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total jute production reached an all time high of 4,486,769 tonnes in 1985 and an all time low of 1,847,773 tonnes in 1968. The average annual growth amounted to 0.537 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 55.9 % of jute production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 95.1 % share while the ten largest countries some 96.5 % in 2014.
