Based on a comparison of 40 countries in 2014, Spain ranked the highest in olive production with 4,560 kt followed by Italy and Greece. On the other end of the scale was Malta with 0.008 kt, Kuwait with 0.054 kt and Uzbekistan with 0.120 kt.
Total olive production reached 18,550 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 9.67 % less than in the previous year and 2.91 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total olive production reached an all time high of 20,418 kt in 2011 and an all time low of 5,411 kt in 1962. The average annual growth amounted to 1.55 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Spain, accounted for 24.6 % of olive production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 44.8 % share while the ten largest countries some 75.0 % in 2014.
