Based on a comparison of 164 countries in 2014, New Zealand ranked the highest in sheepskin production with 3,592,964 tonnes followed by China and Jordan. On the other end of the scale was Hong Kong with 0.030 tonnes, Jamaica with 2.69 tonnes and South Korea with 2.73 tonnes.
Total sheepskin production reached 5,347,113 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 71.8 % less than in the previous year and 66.7 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total sheepskin production reached an all time high of 9,188,797 tonnes in 2013 and an all time low of 928,726 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 3.36 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, New Zealand, accounted for 67.2 % of sheepskin production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 78.6 % share while the ten largest countries some 86.1 % in 2014.
