Which Country Produces the Most Silkworm Cocoons?

Based on a comparison of 21 countries in 2022, India ranked the highest in silkworm cocoons, reelable production with 260,055 tonnes followed by China and Uzbekistan. On the other end of the scale was Syria with 1.00 tonnes, Egypt with 7.56 tonnes and South Korea with 11.5 tonnes.

Total silkworm cocoons, reelable production reached 414,788 tonnes in 2022 in the World according to Faostat. This is 4.85 % less than in the previous year and -40.9 % less than 10 years ago.

Historically, total silkworm cocoons, reelable production reached an all time high of 750,310 tonnes in 2015 and an all time low of 210,890 tonnes in 1962. The average annual growth amounted to 1.10 % since 1961.
