Based on a comparison of 33 countries in 2014, Russia ranked the highest in sour cherry production with 198,000 tonnes followed by Ukraine and Turkey. On the other end of the scale was Slovakia with 61.0 tonnes, Kazakhstan with 200 tonnes and Bolivia with 211 tonnes.
Total sour cherry production reached 1,212,050 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 11.3 % less than in the previous year and -2.21 % less than 10 years ago.
Historically, total sour cherry production reached an all time high of 1,385,078 tonnes in 2009 and an all time low of 441,908 tonnes in 1967. The average annual growth amounted to 1.53 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Russia, accounted for 16.3 % of sour cherry production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 46.5 % share while the ten largest countries some 103 % in 2014.
