Based on a comparison of 105 countries in 2014, China ranked the highest in watermelon production with 74,843 kt followed by Turkey and Iran. On the other end of the scale was Djibouti with 0.069 kt, Puerto Rico with 0.087 kt and Brunei with 0.113 kt.
Total watermelon production reached 104,937 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 4.14 % less than in the previous year and 15.9 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total watermelon production reached an all time high of 109,279 kt in 2013 and an all time low of 17,847 kt in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 3.40 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, China, accounted for 71.3 % of watermelon production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 78.4 % share while the ten largest countries some 89.4 % in 2014.
