Based on a comparison of 49 countries in 2020, China ranked the highest in production of motor vehicles with 25,225 thousand followed by USA and Japan. On the other end of the scale was Algeria with 0.754 thousand, Azerbaijan with 1.95 thousand and Australia with 4.73 thousand.

Total production of motor vehicles reached 77,622 thousand in 2020 in the World according to ACEA. This is 18.8 % less than in the previous year and -0.010 % less than 10 years ago.

Historically, total production of motor vehicles reached an all time high of 97,303 thousand in 2017 and an all time low of 52,986 thousand in 1998. The average annual growth amounted to 1.55 % since 1960.
