Ziraat Bank's non-performing loans reached 1.60% of total loans at the end of 2017, down from 1.81% compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 4.03% in 2004 and an all time low of 1.20% in 2011.

Provision coverage amounted to 95.3% at the end of 2017, up from 94.0% compared to a year earlier.

The bank created loan loss provisions worth of 1.20% of average loans in 2017. That's compared to 1.40% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.

Comparing Ziraat Bank with its closest peers, Isbank operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 2.16% and provision coverage of 104%, Garanti Bank with 2.69% and 78.0% respectively and VakifBank had 4.08% of bad loans covered with 80.2% by provisions at the end of 2017.
