Poverty in the South Caucasus

Language: English
Provider: Caucasus Analytical Digest
Pages: 19
This issue discusses poverty in the South Caucasus in general and in Azerbaijan and Georgia in particular. The first article provides an overview of poverty in the region, relying heavily on data from the Caucasus Barometer. The second article argues that Azerbaijan's oil wealth is not being distributed evenly. As a result, women, older people and refugees suffer the most. Privatization of land helps reducing poverty, but more needs to be done to reduce inequality. And the third article argues that the high level of poverty in Georgia can be explained by jobless economic growth and low agricultural productivity.
