Historically, bank assets as a share of GDP in Brunei reached an all time high of 128% in 2016 and an all time low of 35.9% in 2008. When compared to Brunei's main peers, bank assets as a share of GDP in Indonesia amounted to 53.6%, 188% in Malaysia, 86.5% in Philippines and 193% in Vietnam in 2017.
