Bank regulatory capital reached 3,174 UGX bil in fourth quarter of 2016 in Uganda, according to the National Central Bank. This is 10.9 % less than in the previous quarter.

Historically, bank regulatory capital in Uganda reached an all time high of 3,919 UGX bil in second quarter of 2015 and an all time low of 326 UGX bil in first quarter of 2005. When compared to Uganda's main peers, bank regulatory capital in Kenya amounted to 607 KES bil and 397 RWF bil in Rwanda in fourth quarter of 2016.

Uganda has been ranked 16th within the group of 88 countries we follow in terms of bank regulatory capital, 10 places behind the position seen 10 years ago.

Bank regulatory capital is the minimum amount of a bank's capital required to be held for a certain level of assets through regulatory agencies such as the Bank for International Settlements, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or Federal Reserve Board.
