Diesel-fuelled as a share of new cars sold rose 3.27% to 57.0% in Italy in 2016, according to ACEA.

Historically, diesel-fuelled as a share of new cars sold in Italy reached an all time high of 58.3% in 2005 and an all time low of 5.70% in 1991. When compared to Italy's main peers, diesel-fuelled as a share of new cars sold in Austria amounted to 57.3%, 52.1% in France, 50.2% in Slovenia and 39.6% in Switzerland in 2016.
