Erste Group Bank's non-performing loans reached 4.02% of total loans at the end of 2017, down from 4.94% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 9.63% in 2013 and an all time low of 2.17% in 2000.
Provision coverage amounted to 68.8% at the end of 2017, down from 69.1% compared to a year earlier.
The bank created loan loss provisions worth of 0.098% of average loans in 2017. That's compared to 0.805% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.
When compared to bank's main peers, Raiffeisen Bank International operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 5.68% and provision coverage of 67.3%, OTP Group with 9.20% and 99.3% respectively and PKO BP had 5.50% of bad loans covered with 67.0% by provisions at the end of 2017.
