Foreign debt reached 455,550 USD bil in 2016 in India, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 11.2 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, foreign debt in India reached an all time high of 513,209 USD bil in 2017 and an all time low of 8,425 USD bil in 1970. When compared to India's main peers, foreign debt in Bangladesh amounted to 38,820 USD bil, 1,415,801 USD bil in China, 72,157 USD bil in Pakistan and 46,650 USD bil in Sri Lanka in 2016.
