Foreign debt reached 85,642 USD bil in 2016 in Vietnam, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 17.7 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, foreign debt in Vietnam reached an all time high of 104,079 USD bil in 2017 and an all time low of 25.6 USD bil in 1981. When compared to Vietnam's main peers, foreign debt in Cambodia amounted to 11,204 USD bil, 1,415,801 USD bil in China, 13,524 USD bil in Laos and 121,497 USD bil in Thailand in 2016.
