Foreign debt reached 46,650 USD bil in 2016 in Sri Lanka, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 6.97 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, foreign debt in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 50,142 USD bil in 2017 and an all time low of 436 USD bil in 1970. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, foreign debt in India amounted to 455,550 USD bil, 1,156 USD bil in Maldives and 14,434 USD bil in Myanmar in 2016.
