Foreign trade as a share of GDP reached 74.4 % in 2017 in Chad, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 17.5 % more than in the previous year.

Historically, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Chad reached an all time high of 126 % in 2002 and an all time low of 20.1 % in 1982. When compared to Chad's main peers, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Cameroon amounted to 41.2 %, 49.6 % in Niger, 26.3 % in Nigeria and 21.5 % in Sudan in 2017.
