Government expenditure as a share of GDP rose 16.9% to 39.9% in Lithuania in 2020, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Lithuania reached an all time high of 43.7% in 2009 and an all time low of 32.0% in 1996. When compared to Lithuania's main peers, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Belarus amounted to 40.7%, 40.8% in Estonia, 44.3% in Latvia and 37.3% in Russia in 2020.
