Military expenditures as a share of government expenditure reached 26.3 % in 2017 in Oman, according to the SIPRI Military Expenditure Database. This is 15.3 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Oman reached an all time high of 39.5 % in 1990 and an all time low of 24.3 % in 2009. When compared to Oman's main peers, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Iran amounted to 15.8 % and 30.4 % in Saudi Arabia in 2017.
