Military expenditures as a share of government expenditure reached 4.58 % in 2017 in Egypt, according to the SIPRI Military Expenditure Database. This is 11.8 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Egypt reached an all time high of 30.9 % in 1977 and an all time low of 4.58 % in 2017. When compared to Egypt's main peers, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Israel amounted to 11.5 %, 30.4 % in Saudi Arabia and 30.9 % in Sudan in 2017.
