Military expenditures as a share of government expenditure reached 5.22 % in 2017 in Zambia, according to the SIPRI Military Expenditure Database. This is 12.3 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Zambia reached an all time high of 10.3 % in 1999 and an all time low of 5.22 % in 2017. When compared to Zambia's main peers, military expenditures as a share of government expenditure in Angola amounted to 10.3 %, 5.82 % in Tanzania, 7.41 % in Zimbabwe and 6.44 % in Dem. Republic of the Congo in 2017.
