Natural gas reserves as a share of worldwide reserves rose 2.57% to 17.9% in Iran in 2017, according to EIA.

Historically, natural gas reserves as a share of worldwide reserves in Iran reached an all time high of 18.9% in 1980 and an all time low of 12.3% in 1987. When compared to Iran's main peers, natural gas reserves as a share of worldwide reserves in Iraq amounted to 1.69%, 0.290% in Pakistan and 4.01% in Turkmenistan in 2017.
