Number of prisoners reached 9,913 persons in 2015 in Slovakia, according to the United Nations. This is 1.07 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, number of prisoners in Slovakia reached an all time high of 10,850 persons in 2012 and an all time low of 6,897 persons in 1998. When compared to Slovakia's main peers, number of prisoners in Czech Republic amounted to 20,866 persons and 71,772 persons in Poland in 2015.
Slovakia has been ranked 55th within the group of 105 countries we follow in terms of number of prisoners, 19 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
The prison population is defined as the total number of adult and juvenile prisoners (including pre-trial detainees), including offenders held in Prison Administration facilities, other facilities, institutions for juvenile offenders and for drug addicts and psychiatric or other hospitals.
