Number of prisoners reached 136,245 persons in 2015 in Vietnam, according to the United Nations. This is 4.48 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, number of prisoners in Vietnam reached an all time high of 142,636 persons in 2014 and an all time low of 88,414 persons in 2005. When compared to Vietnam's main peers, number of prisoners in Laos amounted to 8,201 persons and 320,917 persons in Thailand in 2015.
