Number of prisoners reached 6,320 persons in 2015 in Lebanon, according to the United Nations. This is 5.12 % more than in the previous year.

Historically, number of prisoners in Lebanon reached an all time high of 6,921 persons in 2005 and an all time low of 4,686 persons in 2008. When compared to Lebanon's main peers, number of prisoners in Cyprus amounted to 547 persons and 11,489 persons in Jordan in 2015.

Lebanon has been ranked 67th within the group of 105 countries we follow in terms of number of prisoners, 21 places above the position seen 10 years ago.

The prison population is defined as the total number of adult and juvenile prisoners (including pre-trial detainees), including offenders held in Prison Administration facilities, other facilities, institutions for juvenile offenders and for drug addicts and psychiatric or other hospitals.
