Historically, number of teachers in primary education in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 76.8 '000 in 2015 and an all time low of 48.1 '000 in 1976. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, number of teachers in primary education in India amounted to 4,373 '000, 265 '000 in Malaysia, 4.46 '000 in Maldives and 234 '000 in Myanmar in 2017.
