Historically, sales of passenger cars in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 26.3 '000 in 2016 and an all time low of 2.00 '000 in 2010. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, sales of passenger cars in India amounted to 2,967 '000, 515 '000 in Malaysia and 1.30 '000 in Myanmar in 2016.
Sri Lanka has been ranked 76th within the group of 139 countries we follow in terms of sales of passenger cars, 40 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
Passenger cars refer to road motor vehicles, other than two-wheelers, intended for the carriage of passengers and designed to seat no more than nine people (including the driver).
