Sberbank's non-performing loans reached 7.22% of total loans at the end of 2015, up from 5.88% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 10.2% in 2009 and an all time low of 4.47% in 2008.
Provision coverage amounted to 83.2% at the end of 2015, up from 79.4% compared to a year earlier.
The bank created loan loss provisions worth of 2.60% of average loans in 2015. That's compared to 1.26% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.
When compared to bank's main peers, Raiffeisenbank Russia operated at the end of 2015 with NPL ratio of 5.60% and provision coverage of 114%, VTB Bank with 5.72% and 116% respectively and Alfa Bank had 12.7% of bad loans covered with 51.3% by provisions at the end of 2015.
