Historically, total coal consumption in Austria reached an all time high of 9,095 kt in 1984 and an all time low of 3,531 kt in 2014. When compared to Austria's main peers, total coal consumption in Germany amounted to 262,922 kt, 11,801 kt in Hungary, 21,450 kt in Italy and 245 kt in Switzerland in 2015.
