Based on a comparison of 20 banks in Austria, Erste Group Bank produced the highest net profit in 2017, followed by Raiffeisen Bank Int. and Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederosterreich-Wien.

Erste Group Bank made a net profit of EUR 1,460 mil, down 0.866% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of EUR 1,473 mil in 2016 and an all time low of EUR -105 mil in 2014. The average profit in the last five years amounted to EUR 896 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of 5.67% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 9.38% and a minimum of -0.744%.

Comparing Erste Group Bank with its closest peers, Raiffeisen Bank Int. generated a net profit of EUR 1,150 mil with a ROE of 11.2% in 2017, Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederosterreich-Wien netted EUR 559 mil (ROE of 28.4%) and Bank Austria Group announced a net profit of EUR 539 mil giving a ROE of 6.61%.

The net profit of the Austria’s banking sector amounted to EUR 7,234 mil in 2017, up 68.4% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, Erste Group Bank accounted for 20.2% of the sector’s net profit in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 43.8% share while the five largest firms some 58.6% in 2017.
