Based on a comparison of 11 banks in Bulgaria in 2016, Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria was the best capitalised bank, followed by UniCredit Bulbank and United Bulgarian Bank.
Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria's capital adequacy ratio reached 32.2%, down from 36.5% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s capital ratio hit an all time high of 36.7% in 2014 and an all time low of 6.62% in 2003.
Comparing Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria with its closest peers, UniCredit Bulbank ended the year 2016 with a capital adequacy ratio at 25.1%, United Bulgarian Bank with 24.3% and Eurobank Bulgaria some 23.4% at the end of 2016.
The average capital adequacy reached 22.2% in the Bulgarian banking sector in 2016.
