Based on a comparison of 11 banks in Bulgaria in 2017, Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria was the best capitalised bank, followed by UniCredit Bulbank and United Bulgarian Bank.
Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria's capital adequacy ratio reached 31.6%, down from 32.2% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s capital ratio hit an all time high of 36.7% in 2014 and an all time low of 6.62% in 2003.
Comparing Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria with its closest peers, UniCredit Bulbank ended the year 2017 with a capital adequacy ratio at 27.3%, United Bulgarian Bank with 24.3% and Piraeus Bank Bulgaria some 23.4% at the end of 2017.
The average capital adequacy reached 22.1% in the Bulgarian banking sector in 2017.
