Based on a comparison of 28 banks in Bulgaria in 2016, UniCredit Bulbank was the largest lender, followed by DSK Bank and First Investment Bank.

UniCredit Bulbank loans reached BGN 10,873 mil, up 5.34% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s loans reached an all time high of BGN 11,112 mil in 2014 and an all time low of BGN 374 mil in 2000.

Comparing UniCredit Bulbank with its closest peers, DSK Bank customer loans amounted to BGN 6,364 mil, First Investment Bank operated with BGN 5,045 mil loans and Eurobank Bulgaria had a loan portfolio of BGN 4,214 mil.

Bulgarian banking sector provided total customer loans of CZK 55.9 bil in 2016, up 10.3% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - UniCredit Bulbank accounted for 19.4% of the sector’s loans in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 39.9% share while the five largest firms some 54.5% in 2016.
