Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Hungary, OTP Group produced the highest net profit in 2017, followed by OTP Bank Hungary and Erste Bank Hungary.

OTP Group made a net profit of HUF 284,554 mil, up 51.8% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of HUF 284,554 mil in 2017 and an all time low of HUF 7,328 mil in 1995. The average profit in the last five years amounted to HUF 165,564 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of 11.6% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 18.6% and a minimum of 7.32%.

Comparing OTP Group with its closest peers, OTP Bank Hungary generated a net profit of HUF 168,576 mil with a ROE of 12.2% in 2017, Erste Bank Hungary netted HUF 54,754 mil (ROE of 17.7%) and UniCredit Bank Hungary announced a net profit of HUF 51,091 mil giving a ROE of 16.0%.

The net profit of the Hungary’s banking sector amounted to HUF 75,316 mil in 2017, up 2.44% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, OTP Group accounted for 378% of the sector’s net profit in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 674% share while the five largest firms some 797% in 2017.
