Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Italy in 2018, Mediobanca was paying its employees the best, followed by Banca Mediolanum and Credito Valtellinese.

Mediobanca employed 4,717 persons in 2018, down 1.69% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank's workforce hit an all time high of 4,798 persons in 2017 and an all time low of 1,041 in 1997.

Average cost reached EUR 9,855 per month per employee, 6.67% more than a year ago. This figure was EUR per month some 10 years ago.

Staff accounted for 42.4% of total operating expenditures in 2018.

Comparing Mediobanca with its closest peers, Banca Mediolanum had 2,036 employees with average cost of EUR 8,664 per month per person, Credito Valtellinese operated with 3,668 people (and EUR 7,432 per month per employee) and UBI Banca had 19,720 employees in 2018 with cost of EUR 6,533 per month per head.
