Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Italy in 2018, UniCredit SpA was the largest lender, followed by Intesa Sanpaolo and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

UniCredit SpA loans reached EUR 505,668 mil, up 12.9% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s loans reached an all time high of EUR 602,763 mil in 2008 and an all time low of EUR 12,029 mil in 1988.

Comparing UniCredit SpA with its closest peers, Intesa Sanpaolo customer loans amounted to EUR 359,909 mil, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti operated with EUR 305,197 mil loans and Banco BPM had a loan portfolio of EUR 96,353 mil.
