Based on a comparison of 17 banks in Russia in 2017, Sberbank was the largest mortgage lender, followed by VTB Bank and Gazprombank.

Sberbank's mortgage loans reached RUB 3,190,600 mil, up from RUB 2,750,900 mil compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s mortgage loans reached an all time high of RUB 3,190,600 mil in 2017 and an all time low of RUB 512,787 mil in 2009.

At the end of 2017, mortgage loans represented 17.3% of Sberbank's loan book.

Comparing Sberbank with its closest peers, VTB Bank's mortgage loans amounted to RUB 1,094,700 mil at the end of 2017, Gazprombank operated with RUB 270,110 mil mortgage loans and Rosbank had a mortgage loan book of RUB 191,063 mil at the end of 2017.

Russian banking sector provided mortgage loans of RUB 5,187 mil in 2017, up 15.5% when compared to the previous year. As a result, the top ranked company - Sberbank accounted for 61.5% of the sector’s mortgage loans in 2017. The top 3 companies hold a 87.8% share while the five largest firms some 91.5% in 2017.
