What Banks in Slovakia Were the Largest Mortgage Lenders in 2016?

Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Slovakia in 2016, Slovenska Sporitelna was the largest mortgage lender, followed by VUB Banka and Tatra banka.

Slovenska Sporitelna's mortgage loans reached EUR 6,001 mil, up from EUR 5,650 mil compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s mortgage loans reached an all time high of EUR 6,001 mil in 2016 and an all time low of EUR 75.2 mil in 2002.

At the end of 2016, mortgage loans represented 58.5% of Slovenska Sporitelna's loan book.

Comparing Slovenska Sporitelna with its closest peers, VUB Banka's mortgage loans amounted to EUR 4,447 mil at the end of 2016, Tatra banka operated with EUR 2,935 mil mortgage loans and CSOB Slovakia had a mortgage loan book of EUR 2,681 mil at the end of 2016.

Slovak banking sector provided mortgage loans of EUR 1,053 mil in 2016, up 8.39% when compared to the previous year. As a result, the top ranked company - Slovenska Sporitelna accounted for 0.570% of the sector’s mortgage loans in 2016. The top 3 companies hold a 1.27% share while the five largest firms some 1.72% in 2016.
